Looking for a friend to paint with...
POPS began as an informal group of outdoor painters from Winston-Salem
and Greensboro, North Carolina. We enjoyed painting together so much that
we decided to form an official group and start to exhibit our work together.
We have been going strong for the past 10 years!
One of the best things about POPS is the camaraderie. We all agree that we have grown as artists as a result of working together and learning from one another – not to mention the pressure to show up and paint, which keeps us out there practicing!
POPS members have always had a keen interest in preserving the past in our paintings. So many places where we have painted are now unrecognizable to us - wonderful meadows have turned into housing developments, charming architecture plowed down to make way for the new strip mall. One of our first exhibits was linked with an effort to preserve old textiles mills through art.
Because of our appreciation for unspoiled vistas and beautiful structures that are often thought of as old and useless, we have partnered with the Piedmont Land Conservancy. They give us permission to paint on their protected sites; in return we stage exhibits to sell our work, sharing a portion of our proceeds with them.
