Piedmont Outdoor Painting Society

Kathy Phillips

I grew up in Columbus Ohio and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a BA in English. After living in Maryland and Reston, Virginia, I moved to Greensboro in the late 70's and have called North Carolina home ever since. I attended UNC Greensboro in Fine Art and received an AA degree in Commercial Art /Advertising design from Guilford Technical Community College. I subsequently taught in the Commercial Art program at GTCC and I worked as a graphic artist in the advertising business. I later worked as a licensed artist and product designer.

In the past few years I have been able to devote more time to painting. I have studied watercolor with Barbara Nechis, Tony Couch, Skip Lawrence, Arne Westerman and Judi Wagner.  I have studied pastel with Elsie Popkin, William Hosner, Catherine Gill, Albert Handell and Margaret Dyer. I am an exhibiting member of Associated Artists of Winston Salem, and am a charter member of the Piedmont Outdoor Painting Society.

My work has been exhibited in Columbus, Ohio, Reston, Va., and numerous cities in North Carolina. It is in the collections of BB&T and various private collectors.
